Photo of the Day

A new Oregon-related photo every weekday from The Oregonian in Portland, Oregon.

  1. A leaf floats in a rain-spotted pond at the Portland Japanese Garden Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, afternoon. By Tuesday afternoon the rain came in sheets and Portland broke it’s rain fall record for the day. Photo by Randy L. Rasmussen/The Oregonian

  2. Luke Grange, who lives just off SE Sherman and 50th, decided to be a good citizen and unplug the drain that had created quite a large puddle.  He said back in college he’d watched road crews do this and figured he could just as easily reach down and clear the leaves and muck.  While clearing the leaves and muck he got drenched by a car.  On the right is Bridghid Oloughlin, 12, who had been riding with a friend through the puddle.  Oloughlin was sad that Grange’s good deed worked and the puddle quickly drained. High winds, soaking rains lash Portland and Northwest Oregon, closing highways and city streets. Photo by Benjamin Brink/The Oregonian
