  1. TROUTDALE, OREGON - March 17, 2014 - The smelt didn’t arrive on the Sandy River reportedly until after the six-hour window of harvesting Saturday, March 15, allowed by the Oregon Department of Wildlife. There is a final scheduled dip-netting period on the Sandy from 6 a.m. to noon this coming Saturday, March 22, but it’s unclear whether the smelt will still be around by then.  Photo by Stephanie Yao Long/The Oregonian

  2. Edward Nuno, 33, Gresham, returns to the bank of the Sandy River in Troutdale, crossing a fallen tree. Nuno was steelhead fishing, but was unsuccessful. He said he trusts his balance having been a former Ultimate fighter for six years.  Photo by Brent Wojahn/The Oregonian
